This Bullet wood tree has various religious and mythological beliefs allocated with it. This evergreen tree has a height of 10-15 metres which can be easily placed in our garden.

It is considered as therapeutic agent in Ayurvedic treatment and its flowers are devoted to God and Goddesses, as per the belief that this tree is associated with Lord Trimurti.

It also has many other names like Spanish cherry and Indian Medlar tree. The term “Bakula ” means growing quickly and so the name has been offered to this tree due to its similar nature.

The scientific name is “Mimusops elengi”, is the commonly used herb in ayurveda for treatment of inflammation and worm infections. Another name given this tree’s flowers is “Chirapushpa ” for its flowers remain active for a longer term.

From the research, it has been proved that Bakula tree possess many pharmacological properties like treatment against worm infestations, infections after tooth brokerage, can also be used for treating certain allergies, antipyretic, astringent, anti-oxidant, anthelmintic.

  • The fruits of Bakula tree can be used and eaten as such in the form of multiple forms like drinks, and even for application for treatment of worm infections.
